HPE: Edge Connect (Silver Peak) PowerPack Release Notes Version 200

Version 200 of the "HPE: Edge Connect (Silver Peak)" PowerPack updates the PowerPack to Python 3, adds multiple Dynamic Applications, and adds a new example credential.

Before You Install or Upgrade

Ensure that you are running version 11.3.0 or later of SL1 before installing "HPE: Edge Connect (Silver Peak)PowerPack version 200.

For details on upgrading SL1, see the relevant SL1 Platform Release Notes.

Before upgrading to version 200 of the PowerPack, ScienceLogic recommends unaligning the "REST: Performance Monitor" Dynamic Application from existing root virtual devices. This Dynamic Application will no longer function after upgrading.

Version 200 of this PowerPack no longer supports cookie-based authentication. Before upgrading to version 200 of the PowerPack, modify existing credentials to use API key authentication.

Installation and Upgrade Process

If you are currently using the Dynamic Applications in this PowerPack to monitor devices, collection errors might occur for one or two polling cycles during the installation of a new version. To prevent collection errors during an upgrade, you can optionally disable collection for monitored devices before performing the following steps and re-enable collection after the upgrade.

To install this PowerPack:

  1. Search for and download the PowerPack from the PowerPacks page (Product Downloads > PowerPacks & SyncPacks) at the ScienceLogic Support Site.
  2. In SL1, go to the PowerPacks page (System > Manage > PowerPacks).
  3. Click the Actions menu and choose Import PowerPack. The Import PowerPack modal appears.
  4. Click Browse and navigate to the PowerPack file from step 1.
  5. Select the PowerPack file and click Import. The PowerPack Installer modal displays a list of the PowerPack contents.
  6. Click Install. The PowerPack is added to the PowerPack Manager page.

The "HPE: Edge Connect Appliance Memory Performance" and "HPE: Edge Connect Appliance CPU Performance" Dynamic Applications are disabled by default and will be disabled on upgrading to version 200 of the PowerPack.

Upon upgrading to version 200, the PowerPack may miss clearing some events due to changes in the cache from Python 2 to Python 3.

Features

This release includes the following features:

  • Discovers all HPE: Edge Connect SD WAN orchestrators, appliances, and groups
  • Collects and stores key metrics such as alarms and performance data in the SL1 data lake
  • Monitors alarms, availability, performance, bandwidth, and utilization of HPE: Edge Connect devices and tunnels
  • Models relationships between all HPE: Edge Connect SD WAN devices

The PowerPack also includes the following features:

  • The following Dynamic Applications that discover and collect data from HPE Edge Connect Orchestrator, along with its groups and appliances:

Enhancements and Issues Addressed

  • Updated the PowerPack to be compatible with Python 3

  • Converted all Dynamic Applications to Python 3.

  • Converted all Dynamic Applications to the Snippet Framework for improved supportability, scale, and extensibility.

  • Added two new Dynamic Applications to the PowerPack:

    • HPE: Edge Connect Appliance Memory Performance

    • HPE: Edge Connect Appliance CPU Performance

Both of the "HPE: Edge Connect Appliance Memory Performance" and "HPE: Edge Connect Appliance CPU Performance" Dynamic Applications are disabled by default. Enabling the "HPE: Edge Connect Appliance CPU Performance" Dynamic Application may cause performance issues on the orchestrator due to the Dynamic Application calling the API for each appliance device.

  • Removed the "REST: Performance Monitor" Dynamic Application from the PowerPack, as it is not compatible with the Snippet Framework.

Before upgrading to version 200 of the PowerPack, ScienceLogic recommends unaligning the "REST: Performance Monitor" Dynamic Application from existing root virtual devices.

  • Added the new "HPE: Edge Connect v200 API Key" UCF subtype to the PowerPack.

  • Added the new "HPE: Edge Connect API Key Example (UCF)" example credential to the PowerPack.

  • Added a function to the snippet of each Dynamic Application in the PowerPack that checks for an API token in the headers. If one is found, you will receive a warning that instructs you to move the token to the "Embedded Password [%P]" field.

ScienceLogic does not recommend storing tokens in plain text fields, as this goes against security best practices.

Known Issues

The following known issues affect version 200 of the "HPE: Edge Connect (Silver Peak)" PowerPack:

  • Currently, using an HTTPS proxy will not function with this PowerPack, however using an HTTP proxy will.

  • The following Device Dashboards of the HPE: Edge Connect (Silver Peak) PowerPack are not linked to any device class of this PowerPack:

    • HPE: Edge Connect Appliance

    • HPE: Edge Connect Group

    • HPE: Edge Connect Orchestrator
