Before You Install or Upgrade

This PowerPack will not export from SL1 versions 11.1 and above.

Installation and Upgrade Process

To install the "SL1: System Upgrade Assessment" PowerPack for the first time, perform the following steps:

If you are currently using the Dynamic Applications in this PowerPack to monitor devices, collection errors might occur for one or two polling cycles during the installation of a new version. To install this PowerPack:

  1. Search for and download the PowerPack from the PowerPacks page (Product Downloads > PowerPacks & SyncPacks) at the ScienceLogic Support Site.
  2. In SL1, go to the PowerPacks page (System > Manage > PowerPacks).

  4. Click Browse and navigate to the PowerPack file from step 1.
  5. Select the PowerPack file and click Import. The PowerPack Installer modal displays a list of the PowerPack contents.

  • A "Python Assessment Tool" report tool that identifies which PowerPacks will need to be rebuilt before upgrading to a newer SL1 version.

Enhancements and Issues Addressed

The following enhancements and addressed issues are included in version 100 of the "SL1: System Upgrade Assessment" PowerPack:

  • Added two report tools to the "SL1: System Upgrade Assessment" PowerPack:
  • Python Assessment Tool, which identifies and reports PowerPacks that need to be rebuilt before upgrading to a newer SL1 version.
  • PowerPack Encryption Validation, which identifies and reports PowerPacks that need to be rebuilt before upgrading to SL1 version 12.3.0 or later.
  • The "SL1: System Upgrade Assessment Python 2 Verification" run book automation (RBA) no longer includes Internal Collection Dynamic Applications (ICDA).
  • Resolved an issue where the "SL1: System Upgrade Assessment Python 2 Verification" run book automation (RBA) was incorrectly identifying Dynamic Applications aligned to execution environments as Python2 Dynamic Applications.
  • Resolved an issue where the "SL1: System Upgrade Assessment" PowerPack was using an incorrect version of the "silo-apps" library.

Using the PowerPack Encryption Validation Report

The "PowerPack Encryption Validation Report" tool identifies and reports PowerPacks that need to be rebuilt before upgrading to SL1 version 12.3.0 or above.

If your SL1 instance contains PowerPacks that do not use the new encryption method required in SL1 version 12.3.0 and later, the upgrade to 12.3.0 will fail with messages about PowerPack Encryption failures.

A check was added to ensure PowerPacks are using the new encryption model required in version 12.3.0 and later, as the previous encryption code was removed from SL1 in 12.3.0. The upgrade to 12.3.0 will fail if any PowerPacks using the old encryption model are installed in that SL1 instance. Otherwise, an unconverted PowerPack will have its license switched to Read Only and will not be recoverable to a writeable state after 12.3.0 is installed.

Before you begin the upgrade process, complete the following steps:

  1. Download and install the "SL1: System Upgrade Assessment" PowerPack on the SL1 system you are upgrading.

  2. Generate the "PowerPack Encryption Validation" report (Reports > Run Report > System Upgrade Assessment > PowerPack Encryption Validation). The report will identify all of the PowerPacks that are impacted.

  3. Open each PowerPack from the report and save it, then click Build / Export > Create a New Build > Build. This process updates the encryption model for the PowerPack to the new version.

As a best practice, you should download the updated PowerPacks, but you do not need to import the updated PowerPacks to your existing SL1 system before you upgrade to 12.3.0.
