Skylar Analytics 1.6.0 Release Notes

Download this manual as a PDF file

Skylar Analytics contains a set of tools that lets you view, analyze, and use the data Skylar One gathers and sends to the Skylar AI engine. Skylar Analytics insights are presented in the Skylar One user interface, in a ScienceLogic-hosted instance of Apache Superset, and in the Skylar AI API.

Version 1.6.0 of Skylar Analytics includes new forecasting and Device Vitals options in the Data Visualization component, and also a number of other new features and addressed issues.

Skylar Analytics requires Skylar One version 12.3.2 or later. ScienceLogic strongly recommends that you always use the most recent Skylar One and AP2 releases in conjunction with the most recent Skylar AI release. Using the most recent releases will ensure that your Skylar AI system has access to the latest datasets and features. For more information, see the Skylar One Platform and AP2 Release Notes.

New Features and Enhancements in Version 1.6.0

The following new features are included in this release of Skylar Analytics:

  • The Data Visualization component now supports forecasting by using the predictive analysis configurations of certain Data Visualization charts. By enabling the forecast function on a metric, you can create charts that predict future values, which helps you understand upcoming trends and capacity planning. (Jira ID: SKY-1398)
  • The Data Visualization component now includes the following Device Vitals metrics: Availability, Latency, CPU, Memory, and Swap. As a result, you can create a unified chart with all of the vitals across different data collection types. (Jira ID: SKY-683)
  • Added a new workflow to access ODBC for the Data Exploration component. In previous releases, the ScienceLogic team member provisioning a new account had to communicate user name and password credentials to the customer for ODBC in a view that was only available to ScienceLogic. The new workflow requires the administrator to create ODBC users and set user password from the ODBC Users tab in the Analytics Admin section of the Skylar Settings page. This tab is only available to users with a Skylar Analytics license that have ODBC enabled. (Jira ID: SKY-8777)
  • On the Events page in Skylar One that displays after you click the Visit button for SkylarPredictive Alerting on the Skylar AI page in Skylar One, the word "Prediction" appears in the filter field for the Message column. To clear the list of predictive alerts to view all events, click the X button in the filter. (Jira ID: SKY-1446)

Issues Addressed in Version 1.6.0

This section describes the issues that were addressed in this release of Skylar Analytics.

  • Before this release of Skylar Analytics, single-sign-on (SSO) using SAML for multiple accounts to the same SAML provider for some providers was not available. This behavior occurred because the Service Provider Metadata Entity ID was identical for all accounts. In this release, the Entity ID includes account information, which enables SSO using SAML. Existing SSO configurations will need to be reapplied after upgrading to this release. (Jira ID: SKY-1462, SKY-1303)
  • On the Skylar AI page in Skylar One, updated the link related to Skylar Advisor so it goes to the Skylar Advisor page at the main ScienceLogic website. Also, the text on the Skylar AI page in Skylar One was updated. (Jira ID: SKY-1405)
  • Addressed an issue where anomaly detection events were not generated for any devices in Skylar One if anomaly detection was enabled for a metric on a device in an Skylar One organization, and that organization was not configured to export data to Skylar AI. (Jira ID: SKY-1437)
  • Increased CPU for the metadata service and added a timeout to the metadata ingress to resolve issues with data collection. (Jira ID: SKY-1416)

After Upgrading Your SL1 Version

If you upgraded your version of Skylar One to a new release, you will need to run the Skylar Skylar One Management script again. The script is named sl-otelcol-mgmt.py, and it is included with Skylar Analytics in the sl-otelcol RPM package.

To run the Skylar Skylar One Management script after an Skylar One upgrade:

  1. Use the following command to run the Management script on the Database Server (an Skylar One Central Database or an Skylar One Data Engine):

    sudo sl-otelcol-mgmt.py -vv skylar --skylar-all

  2. To check the status of the installation, run the following command:

    sudo sl-otelcol-mgmt.py -vv status

    You should see the following messages in the output:

    ---------- checking feature toggles

    SL_EXPORT_EVENTS = False

    SL_EXPORT_METRICS = True

    SL_EXPORT_CONFIG = True

    ---------- checking services

    sl-otelcol is enabled and running

    ---------- checking connectivity

    checking: Skylar endpoint is healthy

    checking: local OTELCOL endpoint is healthy
