Skylar Analytics 1.7.0 Release Notes

Download this manual as a PDF file

Skylar Analytics contains a set of tools that lets you view, analyze, and use the data Skylar One gathers and sends to the Skylar AI engine. Skylar Analytics insights are presented in the Skylar One user interface, in a ScienceLogic-hosted instance of Apache Superset, and in the Skylar AI API.

Version 1.7.0 of Skylar Analytics includes a number of enhancements to user accounts, more Vitals metrics, a new Dashboard Bundles tab in the Skylar Settings section for Owner users, and other new features and updates.

While ScienceLogic recommends that you use Skylar One version 12.3.6 or later, 12.3.2 is the minimum Skylar One version you can use with this release. ScienceLogic strongly recommends that you always use the most recent Skylar One and AP2 releases in conjunction with the most recent Skylar AI release. Using the most recent release ensures that your Skylar AI system has access to the latest datasets and features. For more information, see the Skylar One Platform and AP2 Release Notes.

New Features and Enhancements in Version 1.7.0

The following new features are included in this release of Skylar Analytics:

  • Added organizations to file system and interface datasets for use with Data Visualization and Data Exploration. (Jira ID: SKY-1495)

  • The Data Visualization component now includes the following Vitals metrics: Availability, Latency, CPU, Memory, and Swap. As a result, you can use the Data Visualization component to display a complete vitals chart. (Jira ID: SKY-1623)

  • Skylar Analytics now automatically creates datasets for all Dynamic Application data from Skylar One. (Jira ID: SKY-643)

  • Added the Dashboard Bundles tab in the Skylar Settings section for users with an Owner role. This tab contains new dashboards and updates to existing dashboards for Data Visualization that you can add to the Skylar Analytics user interface. (Jira ID: SKY-1571, 1583)

  • Added a Licenses link to the Skylar Analytics footer that displays a modal with additional information about licenses and open source packages used in Skylar Analytics. (Jira ID: SKY-1546)

  • When you click the Visit button for Anomaly Detection on the Skylar AI page in Skylar One, the Events page now displays a list of any active anomaly events, with the text "Anomaly" in the Message filter. (Jira ID: SKY-1345)

  • Updates to user accounts and account rules:

    • User passwords must be at least 15 characters long. (Jira ID: SKY-1589)
    • New user passwords must be different from the last five passwords for this user. (Jira ID: SKY-1590)
    • Users will be prompted to reset their passwords every 60 days. (Jira ID: SKY-1633, SKY-1591)
    • Administrator user sessions that have been idle for ten minutes are automatically terminated. Admin users can adjust the timeout value on the Authentication tab of the SkylarSettings page. (Jira ID: SKY-1586, SKY-1654)
    • If a user has three failed login attempts within a 15-minute interval, the user's account is locked for 15 minutes. (Jira ID: SKY-1576)
    • User accounts that have not been active for 35 days are automatically locked. An Admin user can unlock that user account from the Edit User dialog on the Users tab on the Skylar Settings page. (Jira ID: SKY-1587)
  • Updated dashboard logs to include timestamps. (Jira ID: SKY-1731)

  • Updated the audit logs from Skylar Analytics to include more user data, including which user is running commands, the IP that users are accessing and when they are accessing it, and what data is being accessed.(Jira ID: SKY-1582)

  • This release includes package updates and other enhancements to improve security and system performance. (Jira ID: SKY-1338)

Issues Addressed in Version 1.7.0

This section describes the issues that were addressed in this release of Skylar Analytics.

  • Addressed an issue where the dashboards for Skylar Analytics did not display after the initial provisioning of the system. (Jira ID: SKY-1715)

  • Addressed an issue where some custom Dynamic Application data did not get exported from Skylar One to Skylar Analytics. (Jira ID: SKY-1511)

  • Updated the structure of the "InterfaceStatistics" dataset to improve the performance of Interface charts. (Jira ID: SKY-1511)

Known Issues

This release has the following known issue:

  • Skylar uses unique PowerPack naming conventions for creating datasets in the Data Visualization component. If you change the name of a PowerPack, Skylar triggers a new dataset, which will cause charts to fail and lose the historical data for that PowerPack. At this time, ScienceLogic recommends that you do not rename any PowerPacks in Skylar One if that Skylar One system is connected to a Skylar environment.
